<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="apple-tab-span">            </span>White Allies of Racial Equity is hosting a screening and discussion of a <a href="http://annebradenfilm.org">documentary about Anne Braden</a>  Charged with sedition for attempting to desegregate
 a Louisville, Kentucky neighborhood in 1954, Anne Braden used the attacks to turn herself "inside out" and embrace a lifetime of racial justice organizing matched by few whites in American history. She was hailed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his 1963 Letter
 from Birmingham Jail as a white southerner whose rejection of her segregationist upbringing was “eloquent and prophetic,” and named as one of only five southern whites he could count as allies.<o:p></o:p></p>

Texas Appleseed</a> are sponsoring a teach-in on the school-to-prison pipeline and practices in AISD schools.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:.5in">Texas elementary schoolchildren are suspended, sent to alternative schools, and expelled at alarming rates, often for minor Student Code of Conduct violations such as horseplay, disruption of class, or dress code
 violations. During the 2013-2014 school year, almost half of all suspensions in Texas were issued to PK-2<sup>nd</sup> grade students, removals that are not required under state law and are at teachers’ discretion. And school districts have the ability to
 create their own student codes of conduct that go well beyond the state law, allowing suspensions of young students for normal, age-appropriate behavior.<o:p></o:p></p>
